Kyle McLean is an up-and-coming trumpet performer and music educator currently based in Salt Lake City, Utah. A dedicated pursuer of musical excellence, he has recently completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Trumpet performance at the University of Utah. Kyle left his mark at the National Trumpet Competition, advancing to the semi-finals in the graduate solo division. His artistry extends beyond the stage, as he has contributed his talents to music library recordings for Funk Studios and Hexany Audio. His musical journey spans collaborations with esteemed orchestral groups across the United States, including the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, the Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra, the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, the Draper Philharmonic & Choral Society, the Salt Lake Choral Artists, and the Wasatch Symphony. Kyle also has a masters in Trumpet Performance from Texas Tech University and a bachelors in Music Education from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
Tayler Duby is an active freelance performer and educator based in Salt Lake City, Utah. She holds a Master’s degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Utah and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Nevada-Reno. Tayler finds great joy and fulfillment in both public performances and guiding her students to achieve their musical goals.
Currently, Tayler performs with several local ensembles, including the Canyons Brass Quintet, Salt Lake Symphony, Salt Lake Choral Artists, and Draper Philharmonic & Choral Society. She has also excelled in numerous local and national competitions, notably achieving the title of National Finalist in the 2022 MTNA Young Artist Brass Competition.
In addition to her performing career, Tayler is passionate about music education. She recently completed a two-year Graduate Teaching Assistant position, in which she developed her undergraduate teaching skills, with the University of Utah Marching Band. She has conducted several clinics and masterclasses in high schools across Utah, Nevada, and California, enriching young musicians' skills and knowledge. Tayler also enjoys arranging music for solo instruments and chamber ensembles, as well as recording and editing music.
Tayler aspires to teach trumpet at the collegiate level while continuing her dynamic performance career in classical and contemporary music settings. Beyond her musical pursuits, Tayler indulges her creativity through various activities including painting, cooking, baking, rollerblading, and gardening.
Mya is a multifaceted scholar and musician currently pursuing her Ph.D. in the Department of Genetics at the University of Utah. With a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Kentucky, Mya brings a unique blend of scientific rigor and artistic passion to her pursuits. Mya's research focuses on muscle stem cells and skeletal muscle regeneration. Her work is driven by a curiosity about how these cells contribute to the repair of muscle after various traumas, with implications for medical advancements in regenerative medicine. Alongside her academic endeavors, she remains deeply connected to her musical roots. As a talented French horn player, Mya actively participates in orchestral and chamber groups, channeling her creativity and musicality into collaborative performances.
Bjorn Swanson currently holds the position of Interim Assistant Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Utah. Bjorn has performed and taught extensively throughout the states of Minnesota, Iowa and Utah, performing with the Wasatch Symphony, the Taylorsville Symphony Orchestra, and the Chamber Orchestra Ogden, and working with ensembles in the Canyons School District, the Davis School District, the Nebo School District, and the Clear Creek Amana School District (IA).
Bjorn is also an advocate of brass chamber music, founding the brass ensemble, Canyons Brass Quintet, and the Utah Chamber Brass Collective student organization at the University of Utah in the fall of 2022. Since it's founding, the Utah Chamber Brass Collective has performed multiple recitals and hosted a residency featuring the brass ensemble, Mirari Brass Quintet.
Brenden McCauley is a talented conductor and tubist who recently graduated with a Master's degree in Instrumental Conducting. He has been actively working with a variety of ensembles, including the West Jordan Symphony, Salt Lake Symphony, Boise Baroque Orchestra, Saratoga Orchestra, Utah Philharmonic Orchestra, and Wasatch Symphony. In addition to his conducting roles, Brenden plays regularly with the Salt Lake Choral Artists Society and various community orchestras across the Wasatch Front. In his free time, he enjoys exploring new culinary delights and hiking whenever possible. Brenden's passion for music and dedication to his craft have made him a vital part of the musical community.
